Initially, Persebaya planned to use only six foreign players, but recent developments led them to recruit Darryl Lachman. Lachman, a 34-year-old central defender, played for Perth Glory in the 2023/2024 season, featuring in 23 matches. Lachman has experience with Dutch clubs such as FC Groningen, PEC Zwolle, FC Twente, Cambuur, and Willem II. At the Gelora Bangkalan Stadium, Madura United, the finalist from last season, hosted Malut United, a newly promoted team. The match was evenly contested until the end of the first half when Malut United’s foreign player, Cassio Scheid, committed a serious foul. After reviewing VAR, referee Sance Lawita upgraded Cassio’s yellow card to a red card. Returning from the break, Madura United, now with a numerical advantage, put pressure on Malut United’s defense. After a lengthy delay due to protests from Malut United players, Lulinha calmly converted the penalty into a goal. However, Malut United refused to give up. In the 80th minute, they earned a direct free kick inside Madura United's penalty area. Tatsuro Nagamatsu took advantage of this opportunity to score. The 1-1 scoreline remained unchanged until the final whistle, with both teams sharing a point. Meanwhile, PSM Makassar hosted Persis Solo at the Batakan Stadium in Balikpapan. PSM's new foreign recruit, Nermin Haljeta, made a significant impact by scoring twice, in the 23rd and 32nd minutes. In the second half, Persis attempted to fight back but struggled to break through PSM's solid defense. Instead, PSM extended their lead in the 74th minute with a fantastic solo run by Rizky Eka Pratama, finishing with a shot that Muhammad Riyandi could not stop. The final score was 3-0 in favor of PSM, placing them alongside Persib Bandung at the top of the BRI Liga 1 2024/2025 standings.

Jaimerson Xavier will not be joining Bhayangkara FC in Liga 2. The ex-defender of Persija Jakarta and Persis Solo has opted to join PSBS Biak, which has been promoted to BRI Liga 1 2024/2025. Jaime had participated in pre-season with Bhayangkara FC, and even scored in a friendly match against PSIS Semarang. However, he chose to represent PSBS for the upcoming season. The 34-year-old has signed a short-term contract for the upcoming season. "Everything is finalized, and he will be joining the team shortly," said Yan Permenas Mandenas, President of PSBS, in a release. Jaime has arrived in Biak to join PSBS and is likely to be available for their match against PSM Makassar on August 16, 2024, at Stadion Kapten I Wayan Dipta, Gianyar. "Our goal is to strengthen our defense, and we hope Jaime will enhance and solidify our backline," Yan Mandenas added. Jaime becomes the eighth foreign player at PSBS following Alexsandro from Brazil, Abel Arganaraz from Argentina, Gabriel Esparza from Argentina, Williams Lugo from Colombia, Takuya Matsunaga from Japan, Jonata Machado from Brazil, and Julian Velazquez from Argentina. Jaime first played in Liga 1 in 2018. In his debut season, the Brazil and Portugal league veteran led Macan Kemayoran to the championship.

Malut United FC fought in the playoffs against Persiraja Banda Aceh, emerging victorious with a 3-2 aggregate score.
